This outfitter specializes in elk hunting for trophy bulls! If you’re looking for a serious New Mexico elk hunting adventure — the kind of hunting experience that brings majestic, bugling, trophy bulls in so close the hair will stand up on the back of your neck, then you’ll want to book with this outfitter. With comfortable accommodations, good food, and a 90+ percent opportunity on 280” – 390” bulls, they are hard to beat for blood-pumping action in the Gila wilderness and Southwestern New Mexico. These elk hunts feature 2:1 professional guide in units 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 34 and 36. Units 13, 15 and 17 are trophy units and can only be hunted with bow or muzzleloader. We also offer a demanding unit 16B trip that is a horseback bow hunt 10 to 20 miles deep into the pristine Gila wilderness. This is a fully guided 2:1 hunt with option for an upgraded 1:1 hunt. The application period for big game species in New Mexico typically opens early in the year (January) and closes sometime in early to mid-March.

              SPECIAL PRICE FOR 2023 DATES ONLY, OPTION FOR HUNT LISTED BELOW. New Mexico sales tax and tags and licenses not included in the hunt price. Taxes and licenses not included in the hunt price. An annual game hunting license (appx. $65) and habitat stamp (appx. $10) are required when applying in addition to the nonrefundable $15 application fee per species. When applying for the draw, permit fees are paid up front and will be refunded after the draw if unsuccessful. The cost for the elk license is about $773 for the quality/high demand license and about $548 for standard licenses. It should be noted that refunds will not include the annual license cost or application fees, only the permit cost. New Mexico is a lottery state, so no points are used or awarded. Harvest reporting for regulated big game species will apply regardless of harvest success. Landowner vouchers are available.

              Refund Policy:

              Deposits are not refundable. When you make a deposit or payment that money is used to reserve your adventure dates and we cannot sell them to anyone else. If for some reason you have to cancel, you will lose your deposit and any payments you have made. If you are concerned that you might get sick or otherwise have to cancel, we suggest buying trip insurance. There are insurance companies that specialize in providing insurance policies for outfitter bookings and hunts. One such company we recommend is globalrescue.com. It is also our policy, depending on the adventure you booked and at our discretion, that if you have to cancel and we are able to book a replacement for you at the regular price we will work with you to apply your deposits to another adventure. Please note that we cannot refund or roll state or government license fees, application fees, draw results, or tags.

The draw deadline for these tags is in March and costs between $555-$780 for a successful draw. Unsuccessful draws refund all but a $89 processing fee, and this outfitter can provide guaranteed land owner tags ranging from $8500 – $20,000 depending on unit and up (prices are subject to New Mexico sales tax). Option to add additional hunt days (to archery hunts only) and to bring a non-hunter.

              This outfitter has a main lodge for those who enjoy a little privacy with their own room and shower/bathroom. These private suites are available at $100 a night. And include satellite tv and your own private get away. This is a great choice if you wanted to bring your wife along. Enjoy an authentic Southwest meal at the main lodge with other hunters. After a long day in the woods it feels great to kick your feet up and swap stories with other hunters and create new friendships underneath the stars of New Mexico. All lodging is a short walking distance of the main lodge. On the property we the outfitter has an archery range available and a 700 yard private gun range. Hunter can use the range to sight in their rifle before starting the hunt. There are walk-in coolers available for $20 a night. This is a great way to hang a bull before taking it to a meat processor or heading back home. With all of the lodging accommodations meals are always the same and sure to give an amazing taste of what New Mexico food is all about. The outfitter has a few options for lodging and accommodations for the hunters that want to experience the wall tent atmosphere. They have wall tents on elevated platforms with wood stove heat, electric ran to them to charge electrical devices. They are outfitted with 4-full size beds with plenty of room for gear. A cabin is available that is outfitted with 4-full size beds plenty of room for gear and power ran with several electrical outlets to charge phones cameras etc.

              Note: We do prepare our delicious food a little on the spicy side so if you have a problem with that we ask that you please let us know ahead of time so that we can help you enjoy your meal all the more. Based on the kind of hunt booked (wall tent or lodge) depending on the unit drawn, the outfitter will supply a full kitchen or field kitchen for meals.

              Different units will require more hiking than others. Hunter will need to be prepared for their hunt as better physical ability provides better shot opportunity. This outfitter does operate in units that require less hiking (but often harder to draw) so those units can be selected during the application process if desired. Some hunts will be remote and conducted on horseback.


              Transportation (To/From Basecamp)

              Whether driving or flying, we recommend that you arrive a day or two before your hunt, in order to make sure hunter is ready for the first day of the hunt. Hunter is responsible for your transportation to and from Albuquerque International Airport, It is a good idea to rent a truck or SUV for the roads you’ll be traveling. Outfitter will meet hunters at their home base bed and breakfast before the hunt starts.

              Description

              September Archery season can be cool at night and early morning , around 35 – 60 degrees, warming during the day ranging between 50 – 80 degrees. This outfitter wears extremely lightweight/breathable camo and layer over top with a vest or jacket for cool mornings, then shed layers before getting warm and sweaty to reduce scent. October gun season can be cold sometimes freezing at night and early morning, around 30 – 50 degrees, warming during the day, ranging between 50 – 70 degrees. This outfitter wears lightweight/breathable camo and dress in layers as it can be cold in the morning but warm up quickly during the day.** Rain is possible ** GORE-TEX is a good idea to have. Conditions can also be dry and dusty. Full gear list to be provided if requested when booked. This outfitter will field dress the meat and have close connections with a local processor and taxidermist but hunters are required to pay for their own processing, shipping of meat, taxidermy, cape, and antlers. Plan on $200 – $400 for meat processing and shipping and $250 – $1,000 for mounts and taxidermy. Full gear list to be provided if requested when booked.
